It has been a little over a week since we moved to Grenada. Although we are so far away from our dear family and friends, this place is already starting to feel like home. It's hard not to love a place where you live 10 minutes from one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean! The island is lush, exotic, and full of interesting people, foods, and experiences.
Here is a taste of what we have experienced so far. The second night we were here, Ryan and I took a walk along the beach around 6:00pm. The sun sets here around that time, and the sunset was breathtaking.
We walked for about a half mile, and came across a little restaurant right on the water, called The Coconut Beach. Some of the tables were outside on the sand under tiki huts and lanterns. Others were inside, although the restaurant had no wall on the side facing the beach. We sat at a table right inside, but overlooking the ocean where we could feel the breeze. The meal was delicious; we both had a Caribbean chicken dish that had a French Creole flavor.
A couple days later, we took a bus with some of Ryan's classmates to a more remote area of the island. Our tour guides were fascinating and provided an interesting history of Grenada and pointed out various landmarks and sites along the way. First we stopped at Annandale Falls. We took a 10 minutes walk around the falls and saw numerous exotic flowers, banana trees, nutmeg, cocoa, sugar cane, lemongrass, cumin, mango, papaya, and more - all growing naturally in this environment. You can see why it is called The Spice Island!
After leaving the Falls, we traveled another 25 minutes (although less miles than you would think - the roads are very narrow and winding) to Grand Etang Reserve. There are great hiking opportunities here, but we took the short 10 minute walk to the top of one small peak and had a stunning view of the valley and mountains around us.
Our first week here as given us many opportunities to rejoice in our Creator and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us. We look forward to sharing this adventure with you!
